District Governor Isabel Atcheson
District Governor Isabel became a Lion with the Marion Lions Club in 1997. Within her club, she has served as a director, tail twister, president, and secretary. She regularly works in the club's food booth. She enjoys screening preschool children for Operation Kidsight. Delivering dictionaries to local third grade students is a joy. She has served as a trustee for Indiana Lions for Leader Dog. She is a Melvin Jones Fellow, a W.P. Woods Fellow, and a Richard T. Miyamoto Fellow.
Lion Isabel and her late husband, Lion Dick, raised 22 puppies for Leader Dog and 3 puppies for Paws With a Cause. As working dogs, the puppies have been placed in Arizona, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Kansas, Texas, Indiana, Spain, Mexico, Chile, and Taiwan. They were puppy raisers before being asked to join Lions.
Isabel was born in Pennsylvania and attended Grove City College in western Pennsylvania. She became a secondary math teacher.
Lion Isabel has two children who are both married. Her daughter and son-in-law are Lions, originally joining a club in Bloomington, IN. She has four grandchildren. Since the grandchildren live out of state, she does not see them as often as she would like.
In other activities, she is an active member of First Friends Church and an Extension Homemakers' club. She volunteers regularly at the Upland Eyeglass Recycling Center.
